katrina quote

I was reading a reuters news article about businesses in New Orleans, and saw this quote from Art Depodesta, a business owner in uptown New Orleans talking about his restaurant:

"It was nasty. The oyster cooler, well, the dead bodies I saw got nothing on that oyster cooler,"

I was busting up laughing after I read that. Was he really more disgusted by the nasty oysters than the dead bodies?

Impeach Bush

I think this is the only way to regain some respect in the world after Katrina, which seemed like the last straw. I'm not the only one. Even if we can't actually get him impeached, there should at least be a strong campaign for it.

Truckerphoto

I read about this guy’s blog in the latest Business Week magazine.

Not your typical trucker. He cruises with his laptop and blogs all around the country.

I was surprised that he could get wifi access at so many truck stops actually.

A blog with a little advertising actually seems like a great way for a trucker to make a little extra cash during downtime on the road…

Bathroom Break

This was on REUTERS yesterday:

"U.S. President George W. Bush writes a note to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice during a Security Council meeting at the 2005 World Summit and 60th General Assembly of the United Nations in New York September 14, 2005. World leaders are exploring ways to revitalize the United Nations at a summit on Wednesday but their blueprint falls short of Secretary-General Kofi Annan's vision of freedom from want, persecution and war."

This is soooo classic.

Need a Halloween costume idea?

Katrina Help or PR Stunt?

This donation looked genuine at first, and then I noticed they are only donating only one night, and valued it at $50,000.

It seems like great PR for the hotel (and relatively cheap), but I hope that wasn’t the intention.

One Cut

One cut can cause some serious damage

Lets hope some terrorist doesn’t start snipping power lines (or blowing up levees)

21 MPG

You would think we could have progressed a little bit in 24 years. You know, get a little more bang for our gas buck.

Our cars are still getting the same gas mileage today?

iPod nano

The iPod nano came out this week, and it looks pretty cool. Thin as a pencil, about the size of a business card, and it comes in 2 or 4 gig sizes. So much better than an iPod mini. (I still like my 40 gig though.)

Zodiac CZ7 Adventure Boat

This boat just seems completely necessary.

The site loads slow, so hang on. I could see Arnold cruising the Sacramento delta in this .

But seriously, how cool is this thing?

Canon sd400

I just bought a new Canon sd400 camera. It is a lot better than my old Canon s200 (I think that's what it was). Basically, it's smaller, zooms farther, takes better pictures, bla bla bla. I think it is the best choice for anyone looking for a super portable camera in the $300 range. I got a great price on Amazon: canon sd400

BBC: Katrina Saved US Media?

I’ve seen lots of commentary suggesting that the hurricane will give US media their balls back. Here’s an article on BBC. I’m not sure if it will trigger any long-term changes, but it does seem to have helped in the short-term.

EricSchmidt1@yahoo.com

Why does Eric Schmidt (CEO at Google) have a Yahoo email address?

It's listed on his home page. (and why does his site suck so much? is this 1994?)

I took a screen-shot of it:

F*ing Google

Here’s some good gossip about what Steve Ballmer has to say about Google.

Not very good PR for Microsoft.

Mayor Ray Nagin really speaks his mind, and breaks down to tears at the end. Listen here.

Katrina craigslist

This is really cool. People from all over the country are flooding craigslist offering help for Katrina victims.

It’s helping people find their families, find a place to stay, a job, etc…
